The Defender began development in the 1970s as an armored version of the Islander. Since then, the product has been extensively developed. The prototype flew on June 13, 1965, powered by 210 hp Rolls-Royce/Continental IO-360-B engines, and was seen four days later at the Paris Air Force Base.
